We are all thirsty

"Come to the water,
you who thirst and
you'll thirst no more"

-Tenth Avenue North

We are all thirsty...
We all want something more; a better job, more money, better grades, better quality of lives, finer clothes, better shoes, better partners, better children, better cars, better houses, better churches..the list is endless.

Now let me personalise this: I want to be more productive, have a better job, more money, a better house: more like my own crib, better clothes, better shoes, better weaves, better gadgets, better er..erm..body, yes..more books, better jewelry...the list is endless I could go on and on.

I do not think it is bad to want more and better things for ourselves, in fact I think it is good. It just occurred to me that there might be people who are just satisfied with their lives and do not want more or better from life. Well...first off, do such people exit? If they do, that's fine, mediocrity isn't as deadly as cancer or AIDS is it? But I digress...

Having established the fact that we will always want more, the question to ask would be how much we are willing to give up to get what we want. Don't be so quick to answer because you never truly know what you can do until you are faced with a difficult decision and you have to give up something precious to get what you want. Of course there's always that 'I can never do such a thing to get ______' (feel free to fill in the gap). But I beg of us, to please pray never to be in a desperate situation because you never truly know what you can do until you are pushed to the wall and it seems the only option left is to do what you have vowed never to do. But again, I digress...

Back to "We are all thirsty", I remember the story of the Samaritan woman in John:4, she had had seven husbands. Seven! Even in our generation, a woman divorced seven times is a rarity and will create a controversial and interesting trend on social networks should such a story leak out. However, the major question is what exactly was she looking for moving from husband to husband? It couldn't have been money, sex, compatibility, TDH shenanigans, etcetera, etcetera, ecetera. Why do we always want more and better? Could it be that deep down, we are all looking for validation? Is it possible that I want that latest pair of Louboutin shoes to prove to those that have looked down on me in the past that I too can have designer shoes? Maybe you want that latest car because you want to prove to Ijeoma that you too can be rich and she shouldn't have turned you down when you were hustling and using your 'leggedez benz' to cruise around Mushin, Bariga and Iyana-Ipaja.
We are all thirsty because we all want validation, we want to be recognised, we want to feel that our opinions count, but we don't realise that what we really need is inner peace, rest, we need to be a part of something bigger than ourselves...we need to take of the living water that Jesus offers to quench that need for validation.
I honestly started this write up with no intention of making an alter call getting all preachy, but I have to say this.
If you do not have Jesus, you will always search for love, peace and validation in all the wrong places and end up hurting yourself, accept Jesus and accept the peace that surpasses all understanding.
If you already have Jesus, then just go ahead and drink, anytime you feel the pressure of giving in, just drink, when you feel lost, scared and confused, just drink, when you feel like you need more material things to keep you happy, just run to Daddy and drink...drink till you're drunk and you cannot even remember all that this world has to offer. Drink till you're so full that living waters flow out of you for others to drink.

Being a christian doesn't mean we stop wanting material possessions, it simply means we don't seek validation in material possessions because we have already been validated, with the blood of Jesus!!!

John:4vs 13-14 "Jesus said unto her, 'Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life' "

Love you all,
Yes, I really do :)
xoxo
